1. THE BEST DESTINATIONS IN THE ASIA SOUTHEAST TO START IN THE FAMILY
Asia is the perfect destination for a family vacation. Whether you are looking for a more urban landscape, a cultural itinerary or relaxing on the beach, in South East Asia you will find everything that is right for you. Find out in advance about the weather conditions, considering the tropical climate made of damp and monsoon, which, although short and not too annoying during the rainy season, is a daily appointment. And then get lost in the world map. Cities like Singapore and Hong Kong will certainly not disappoint you if what you are looking for is a city break. Discover Bali or travel in Thailand, your little ones will love it. Even Vietnam is the perfect destination if you are looking for a family adventure. Whatever the destination is chosen, do not underestimate the timing for obtaining a visa.
2. HEALTH AND FOOD
An appointment with your doctor before departure will remove any doubt but know that you can travel in Asia with the little ones with the utmost serenity. It is important to be up to date with vaccinations, most countries do not require additional ones, particularly if you avoid wild places. Small attentions can save your holiday: never drink tap water, in the premises always ask for water without ice and non-spicy food (always point out, spices are part of the local cuisine), avoid the more Spartan and above all trust the locals! When there is a queue at the entrance, play it safe! It’s the restaurant for you.
In South East Asia the temperatures are very hot, and can even reach very high peaks: consider that you always have a bottle of water with you.
3. WHAT TO PUT IN A SUITCASE TO GO TO ASIAN SOUTHEAST WITH SMALL CHILDREN
Light games! You will find a tropical climate almost everywhere and throughout the year: avoid coats, heavy sweaters, jeans and prefer light garments, which take up little space in your suitcase, easily washable (rather opt for local laundries) and suitable for humidity. Essential sunscreen and mosquito repellent. If you are travelling with small children, always prefer a baby carrier in the stroller: the Asian sidewalks are likely to make you definitely fatigued. In supermarkets, you can find baby food and diapers, but if you have a favourite brand, put it in your suitcase: the quality of the products you will find is not always the same. Tip: bring a camping bed for your little ones, it is often difficult to find even in medium-high hotels. Be careful: make a photocopy of your passport before leaving.
4. HOW TO MOVE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA WITH SMALL CHILDREN
Moving in South East Asia is generally very simple. In countries like Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, the rail network is slow but very good. It is important to know that the same safety rules do not apply: it is difficult to find a car where a car seat is available. Getting around on foot is definitely what you do most often, and for longer distances taxis are really cheap and a great solution. Don’t be scared by the long flight: the best companies offer an entertainment service on board and also provide cots for children (up to 9-11 kg). Always prefer night flights that will make it easier to adapt to the time zone.
5. WHAT TO EXPECT: CULTURE
In all the countries of South East Asia, there is a deep respect for the family and for this you will find yourself in an extremely welcoming environment, fond of children and open. Prepare for your children to receive what could be seen as an unusual level of attention: a caress on the hair, a puff on the cheek, and for the little ones you will be asked to take them in your arms. In Asia it is normal. If it bothers you, it will suffice to say no cordially. South East Asia is extremely safe: feel free to move and discover. But be careful on the road: don’t run and don’t move brutally while crossing for example. Often there are no traffic lights, the highway code has very different rules from the western ones, and this could upset them. Equipped with comfortable shoes if possible without laces: in Asia, it is polite to remove them and you will often be asked to do so. For the rest, you will find smiling people everywhere always willing to help you. South East Asia is a great destination for a family vacation.
Have a good trip!
